I responded by telling them that based on my experience a home-based business is the only way to control your own destiny. I quit high school in the 10th grade and enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1965. While in the Marine Corps, I received my GED. You know what they say about a GED it’s a Good Enough Diploma. When I was discharged from the Marine Corps in 1969, I went to work in a local factory. My first job was sweeping floors and I eventually worked my way up to a fitter position. The major problem I had with that job was that I was constantly on strike. The union would constantly call a strike when management took any action against a union member for misconduct such a sleeping on the job. Frustrated I went out into the job market. I worked in the bar and restaurant business, the car business and construction. I finally felt that I discovered my calling when I became a police officer. I bought into the old theory that if you work hard, do a good job and pursue your education you would be successful. I enrolled in night school and after going to school four semesters a year for five years, I received my Bachelors Degree in 1980 from Penn State University. For those unfamiliar with civil service jobs, in order to be promoted, you have to be on the job for five years before you are eligible to take a promotional exam …
